Antequera Castillo Andalucia Costa del Sol

Impressions of Antequera Castillo Andalucia Costa del Sol

Antequera is a medium sized stylish town about 38 miles inland from the coast at Málaga. It lies at the crossroads of major highways and train links between Granada -Málaga - Seville - Cordoba and Huelva. It is also on the main AVE high speed train link from Málaga to Madrid (Takes just 2 hours).

Antequera has a long history - its prehistoric burial sites or 'Dolmens' testify to that. The three major influences in the region -- Roman, Islamic and Spanish have left scattered remains that dot the town in a rich tapestry of architectural gems.

Antequera's has many beautiful churches, monasteries and historic buildings.

The historic part of town where the original part of Antequera stretches up the hill from the Plaza de San Sebastian to the Castle. Just a short walk and you find yourself in a different world of narrow, whitewashed streets, flower-decked patios and even older churches. Climb up higher and you can see right over the red roofs and bell towers to the rolling Andalucian countryside beyond.

The town and the valley are overlooked by an enormous peak of linestone, 880 metres high, called La Peña de los Enamorados, or "The Lovers' Leap".

Being a genuine Spanish town and not a tourist trap, Antequera is wonderful to visit at any time of year. Andalucian charm remains undimmed by coach parties and souvenir shops.
